Medieval City of Rhodes- 30 Years World Heritage Site

Rhodes International Festival 2018 celebrates the 11th anniversary since its foundation and is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the integration inclusion of the Medieval city of Rhodes to in UNESCO’s World Heritage Site as well as to the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage The festival will take place from September 5 to September 13 at the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights in the medieval city of Rhodes and will offer once again unique music nights to the public. The venue has been classified by UNESCO’s catalogue as a Monument of World Cultural Heritage.
The Rhodes International Festival was founded in 2007 and is recognized as one of the most successful festivals in Greece, earning excellent reviews. The festival attracts music lovers mainly from abroad as well as Greece and has hosted very significant events and several renowned orchestras, music ensembles and artists.

The internationally distinguished opera singers Stefanos Koroneos and Adelmo Guidarelli coming from the U.S.A, well known for their comic talent, are the guests of honor of the Rhodes International Festival official opening concert on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. The two bass – baritones as well as Frixos Mortzos, piano accompaniment, will present an extravaganza concert with arias and duets from comic operas “Opera Buffa”.
On Friday, September 7, the festival presents “Caja Secreta”, one of the most important flamenco groups in Greece. The nuevo flamenco sound of the secret box (Caja Secreta), created by the guitarist -composer Thomas Natsis, closely linked with dance and song travelled quite a long way and waits for you to open it!
In the context of the year 2018 Greek -Egyptian Friendship, on Tuesday, September 11, the festival presents , “Eman Shaker & friends” from Cairo which will perform a program of classical and arabic music.
The 2018 festival will say goodbye to the audience on Thursday, September 13, with a special piano closing concert. The Japanese, based in Paris, distinguished pianist Etsuko Hirose is the winner of the first prize at the Martha Argerich competition ,which launched her solo career. Works by: Beethoven, Debussy, Chopin, Liszt

Rhodes International Festival 2018 is organized by the “Rhodes International Festival” cultural organisation, the South Aegean Region and the Culture and Sports Organisation of the Municipality of Rhodes under the artistic and general direction of the Cultural Manager Mrs Penelope Serdari, founder of the festival.
It is held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Greek National Tourism Organisation as well as the Hellenic National Commission for Unesco

Artistic Director

Penelope Serdari,  Artistic & Managing director, founded  Rhodes International Festival on 2007 focusing on the venue, the Palace of the Grand Magister  of the Knights, located in the Medieval city which was the main reason of her inspiration regarding its great value  as a monument of world cultural heritage by Unesco.

Cultural advisor, manager and organiser of important cultural events all over the world, after her  literature and Intercultural studies in Florence, Italy, she continued to study Human Resources management at  Macedonia University, Thessaloniki, Greece and then pursued a Master of Arts in Cultural Management and Tourism Management at the University of Northumbria, U.K
Penelope Serdari’s career includes some important positions in the Cultural Sector  as President and Executive Director of the Opera of Thessaloniki-Greece. She was  for several years the Artistic programming and concerts organising manager of the Thessaloniki  State Orchestra too.

As cultural advisor and organiser  she collaborates with cultural organisations, foundations, ministries, municipalities, concert halls, festivals in greece and abroad for major cultural events.
She  has been collaborating for many years with the Presidency, the Ministry of Culture and Cultural Organizations of Cyprus with highlights the cultural events during the presidency of Cyprus in the European Union in 2012 (New York, Berlin, Strasbourg etc).
She is the President of the non profit cultural organisation “Greek Culture in the 21st Century”.

Besides her specialization in Culture and Tourism she has a strong activity in the fields of Development , Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greek-Italian Chamber of Commerce and member of the Hellenic  Management Association in the field of leadership.
She is a member of the UNESCO center for women and peace in the Balkan countries and former member of the Board of Directors
